AMD Radeon HD 6950 can upgrade to the HD 6970 is identical with the firmware upgrade software.

The price of the AMD Radeon HD 6950 is less than the HD 6970 for about $68, but hackers have found that the video card and two, nothing different than the firmware's on the cards HD 6950, and close the shader it to 1408 units while. HD 6970 is 1536 units.

Appears that the upgrade is simple. Just go and download the ATI Winflash BIOS HD 6970 and the actual load to the card. When reboot the card will have been upgraded successfully.

Normally the Block is often made between the chip manufacturing process, such as laser cutting the fuse. Some out to some of the chip module does not work. But not exactly why AMD chose to lock the software process. I will not have to check the BIOS version to match the card.
